Scones

Ingredients:

  • 2 &3/4 Cups Four

  • 1/3 Cup Sugar

  • 3/4 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder

  • 8 Tablespoons cold Butter

  • 1/2 Cup Milk or Half and Half

  • 2 Large Eggs

  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Directions:

Whisk flour,  sugar, salt, and baking powder together in a large bowl. Grate the cold butter and hand mix into the flour mixture until crumbly. In a separate bowl mix together milk, eggs, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dough. Mix together with a large spoon until the dough holds together. Flour or put parchment paper on a baking sheet. Take the dough and separate it into 2 five inch round doughs. Run a knife under cold water and cut the round dough into wedges. Pull the wedge apart slightly so you can see in between them. Put the dough in the freezer for about 30 minutes. While the dough is in the freezer, preheat the oven to 425 and place the rack on the upper third of the oven. After the dough is chilled, bake for 18 to 23 minutes or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.

Tips and Tricks:

I use this scone recipe as a base dough and add different nuts, fruit, chocolate, and sometimes glazes. I love maple bacon in these with a maple glaze. Feel free to freeze the dough if you plan on making them later. Wrap each scone individually to keep fresh.
